I usually just say that I used to like football until everyone started 'all that tripping up' and then go one about 'how they all getting paid obscence amounts for fuck all...' then throw in 'but I don't mind watching the rugby in a pub'. That usually sates the appities of most football bores as well as those with a casual interest - just hope you don't get a rugby bore... then you're back to square one! In that situation I have a trump card. A quick subject change into snowboarding means I can waffle at length about a) Snowboards b) Boots c) Ski resorts d) the countries they are in e) broken bones etc etc
