"The game also introduces a new female character, Princess Daisy, replacing Mario's usual love interest, Princess Peach."

but she's certainly a part of the Mario canon, as it were. She is in fact my favourite character on MarioKart Wii, and I know she's in Super Mario Galaxy, too.

but I thought Princess Peach and Princess Daisy were the same fella.

*edit* aita is right, Peach is blonde. Although it looks to me that Daisy is a redhead. That's the only difference I can see, apart from the names.
I named my cat Princess Peach. Like you care.

Mario also had another girlfriend, Pauline, she was in Donkey Kong and NES Pinball.

#18 they are called Thwomps not Whomps
#18 & 19 Thwomps and Boos first appeared in SMB3 not Mario 64.
#14 says Doki Doki Panic was "hastily refitted" to be a mario game but actually Miyamoto spent 14 months retooling the game into a US Mario sequel. He only spent 2 months making the Japanese SMB2 which was basically just a stage design change to SMB and the only added element were poison mushrooms. In a way the US SMB2 was a more worthy sequel than the Japanese.
Sorry had to get those geeky corrections out of my system.
