I used to have a Bberry, it was reliable.
Then I went for 1 1/2 years without a phone due to a job change (got sacked). Recently I picked up the Samsung Epic - Android with 4g. I really like it: good processor speed, a multitude of free apps, handles several email accounts, about the size of the new iPhone, but to its credit has a slide out keyboard, which I really likes.

i have a couple of things to consider
1: It needs to be from the list of free handsets from orange really, as I am completely broke
2: there are loads of nokia chargers around the house as we've had several nokia handsets, which makes life easy with a nokia

I got a new (cheap) nokia
and the charger is a USB that goes either into the phone, or a wall plug.
Old car/DC chagers obsolete.
