American cars have a bit of a reputation for this
It's been the plot of at least two films that instantly come to mind, as well as being a pretty major issue with the Crown Victoria.

This is what their police drive, and more often that you'd like, when they're parked up at the side of the road carrying out duties, if something rear-ends them, they have a bit of a habit of going up in flames.
