This is a normal post He was a tragic figure in real life
He had an arrow through the hand from the war with Indians, further disabled his arm in the Gettysburg and subsequently had to have his leg amputated after the battle of Chickamauga. HE had to be literally strapped onto his horse.

Described as 'All of the lion and none of the fox', he lost nearly all his army in the battle of Nashville, whereupon 'His sturdy visage assumed a melancholy appearance, and for a considerable time he sat on his horse and wept like a child.'
