i have heard of this
but it has only ever been from clubbers, never seen any medical evidence. also there is the old guy (shulgin?) who has taken it for years and his back is fine AFAIR.

It hasn't.
But it has been positively DISproven as a load of confused bunk. The myth arose as a result of experiments into ecstasy users where spinal fluid was deliberately drained from the subjects for examination.
Somewhere in translation to the masses, this became "Ecstasy drains your spinal fluid."
It would be amusing if so much information about illegal drugs weren't so similarly distorted by panicky hearsay.
