he did make some good points
he was talking about communities, rather than the horror that is Social networking.
I mean, look at B3ta, alot of us are essentially anonymous to each other yet mostly maintain a cordial tone. Most put-downs or jeers are jovial in nature and unless you're of the thinnest skin you are unlikely to take offence. Sure, a few trolls sneak in here and there but it's still very similar to the way Allen described it.
Anonymous commenting on things you'll likely never return to is like graffiti. It'll stay there a while and then it'll be gone from sight after someone cleans it up (or it just goes beyond page 2 and no-one ever reads it again) combined with a lack of moderation is what encourages these dicks to be dicks constantly.
