As someone who used to run a indie music shop
this makes me really sad, I also worked in an indie photographic shop for 2 & 1/2 years before the landlord doubled the rent and forced us out, again, everytime I see another one go I get really sad about it.
There is areason people work in places like this and it sure as hell ain't to become rich, its for nothing more than a pure love of it, there's a line in high fidelity about his staff turning up even when they weren't paid that rings true. I never got paid overtime but did a minnimum of 50 hours a week without fail when running that place!
I hope that the current move towards unique & boutique shops will soon reach the music side of things.
