I happened to cross Mormons on the bus witch is pretty rare and weird in France (Mormons, non buses), and I ended looking them up on Wikipedia, and, well, the map is quite explicit.

The treatment of Mormons in the US is an embarassment to Christians and the country as a whole. Rape, theft, murder, property confiscation, forced dislocation, targeted legislation, and orders for extermination. They came out smiling (and clean cut) in the end.

the alienation of mormons is something i really dont understand. they are no more bat shit insane than most of the other christian denominations.

I've known ex mormons who've been ex-communicated from their family and/or hounded by them.
Them, and Jehovahs Witnesses don't take kindly to people leaving.

What with there being 7.5 million of them and only 144,000 places in heaven.

However it opens up another valid tactic - force people who others have recruited to leave. Double bonus!

From a church, maybe. I know Molrmons with kids that don't practice - they still go around the house. Mom and dad may wish otherwise, but my mom wishes I'd have chosen a different line of work. I don't kno about the JWs. I know in some eastern religions growing around here people are killed if they violate cetain tenets. I worry more about physical than emotional pains.
