I used to drive through over a ford (but not in a Ford) on a regular basis - there's a real trick to driving a car through water, you have to keep a constant speed and allow a bow wave to form and not stall. (I often had to tow people out who didn't understand the last bit about not stalling - it's quite important).
It's bad enough trying to keep a car under control let alone a bus.
