This is a normal post Venlafaxine was the last antidepressant that I tried and
didn't do anything for me apart from causing the most insane nightmares dreams imaginable*. I came off of them after about a year because I was so numb, I had no chance of actually dealing with the root cause of my depression. Of course, being me, I didn't tell my GP and just went cold turkey. The first three to four weeks were fine, but after that I crashed. Badly. It's taken me about another year to get over the effects of the medication, but now I'm able to recognise my depressive and self destructive tendencies just about in time to alter my behaviours enough to avoid dropping off of the planet humanity completely. Everyone is different though and I'm sure that some peeps respond well to antidepressants. Not me though.

*Including one a bit like the Poseidon Adventure except that instead of escaping, the trapped passengers (several hundred of them) used all of the crap in the bottom of the boat to start a subsistence farming economy. The society needed governing, however, and eventually a crude fascist dictatorship arose to fill the power vacuum. It was my job to go in and free the masses from their evil overlords and ensure fair distribution of the potatoes. Mad, but highly entertaining.
