They've found themselves in a position where they have a massive amount of visibility, but very little power - it's naive to think that any hard-line Lib Dem policy has a chance of getting in when the Tories run the show, particularly in an economic and political climate like this.
That said, it's crushingly disappointing to a long-term Lib Deb voter like myself; they've had a clear choice between short-term survival and long-term credibility, and it's pretty clear they've gone wholeheartedly for the former. I'm not sure they had any choice, really, but come the next election they'll be further behind than ever before.
