I resisted buying Skyrim until now because I refuse to spend more than £20 - £25 on games. If there's DLC available in future for it I won't buy it until it's heavily discounted.
I also resisted buying GT5 for about a year and a half for the same reason.
As for stupid things like buying avatars, wallpapers and superfluous in game crap, why anyone would buy those things is beyond me.

I usually wait for prices to drop, except for the 'most wanted games'
But I have to say Skyrim was way worth the RRP. The number of hours enjoyment I've had (and am still having) is unreal... Considering the cinema is £13 in London these days, the £30 I paid for it was a bargain!

It's not so much that I don't want to pay
and more about me being a student and slightly broke at all times(not that I'm unable to eat). So for me it's about balancing a budget figuring out what is best at making me experience a fantastic universe in which I can have awesome adventures. Games or tequila, and games are less sad on weekdays :) On top of that, as much as I love my games I am in fact able to live without the newest toys, also the very second they are let loose on the world.

There is 4 tpyes of DLC in my opinion
1) Indy DLC. A free game with DLC to unlcok the full game. Great.
2) Extra Content DLC. Like the Red Dead Redemption Zombie pack. A hwhole new game based off the current game. Great.
3) Whimsical DLC. DLC that gives you costumes/wallpapers. Money waster
4) Integral DLC. Unlocks on disk content for the game, extra weapons and the like. COmplete rip off forcing people to pay twice as much for a game just so they can play all the content on the disk they;ve already paid for.
