but that same week i saw a 10-11 year old kid getting truncheoned and i was kicked in the back a load of times by some other less gentle police... :D i know loads of police are awesome people. but if one of them is an absolute cunt the rest will back him up not stop him. i can even see why, the need to stick together, to keep yourself and your comrade safe and the knowledge that once a crowd sees a breakdown in solidarity/discipline the go a bit more mental. i have very mixed feelings about the police service.

I can think of a few videos out there in which a police officer totally abuses his authority. The one where a cop 'confiscates' a young teenager's skateboard, being very confrontational (despite the kid and his mates posing no threat to national security whatsoever) and being a bully - no other word - sticks out.
I guess it still rings true though that officers are people. Some are decent and some use it as a mandate to be dickheads. I'm sure we've all encountered both from time to time..

does working in the police service make people more likely to abuse their power? does police work attract those who are likely to abuse their power? cos as far as i can tell they are more dickish than the general population.

I think I'm lucky in that in the few encounters I've had with Her Majesty's Constabulary they've tended to be pretty regular guys. I have no doubt, however, that from what I've seen on Youtube and the like that - maybe like those couple of scenes from Full Metal Jacket with that grunt dude - people can and do sign up to 'authorise' their sociopathic tendencies, without a doubt!

Try working in a job where people treat you with suspicion or hate and see how dickish you become. It's a tough and unpopular job and there are fewer of them around now because of it (well, that and the budget cuts). So much for the "Police State".

no one remembers a nice cop or videos them and puts them on youtube.
Everyone remembers a cunt.

although i was keeping them locked up so i can see why they felt that way. it does make you tempted to be more cunty but that's unprofessional.
