Ferom my post on the subject:
"Let’s be clear here: by ‘trolls’ I mean people who say provocative, upsetting or even hurtful things purely to get a rise out of you and/or to disrupt conversations and communities. This advice about trolls covers a range of anti-social behaviour from childish mischief to downright malice."
So I'm not going to report a mischievous shirt-stirrer to police, but if I want the subject to remain on-track and on-topic, I am going to ignore them. So the same advice applies to both types of so-called troll.
Totally take your point about the word being used and abused, though.
