Alcoholism and AA
Went to a meeting once myself cos i was a bit worried about my intake (usually a bottle of wine or more six days per week) but I wasn't into it.

All sad stories of people losing their families and being unable to pass a pub door etc.

I have a good job, a relationship, pay my rent, bills, DD's on time etc, get along with my family and have plenty of friends, most of whom enjoy a pint or a bottle on a regular basis.

Can one be a functioning alcoholic?

Not according to AA.
