Accidental animal cruelty
I once invented a brilliant game - I'd sit at the top of the stairs and throw cat biscuits to the bottom. My cat would eat them, then I'd shake the box, and he would run up the stairs for more biscuits. Then - of course - I'd throw a biscuit back down to the bottom. I kept this going for about half an hour, amused at my little game, and all was fine until the cat vomited. I felt absolutely dreadful.
Have you accidentally been cruel to an animal?
This question has been revived from way, way, way back on the b3ta messageboard when it was all fields round here.

I have this story with a happy ending!
In short: wandering round Carlton Terrace in Edinburgh, hear pathetic mewing, tiny little b/w cat pops out from under parked car to say hello. We say hello back and continue to the pub. On the way back to our mate's house (with whom we were staying), kitty pops out again and says hello. Then follows us to his house (we did encourage her by making encouraging sounds) and hangs around looking all pretty and lonely. She was tiny, only about 2 months old. So Andy (our mate) lets her in as it was cold outside, gives her some milk, lets her stay the night. And the night after that. And that. He adopted her (after putting up "Found Cat" posters); she started taking great interest in his pet rats, so his best friend adopted her, and she's now a placid house cat in a lovely flat. Awww.
