This is a question Accidental animal cruelty

I once invented a brilliant game - I'd sit at the top of the stairs and throw cat biscuits to the bottom. My cat would eat them, then I'd shake the box, and he would run up the stairs for more biscuits. Then - of course - I'd throw a biscuit back down to the bottom. I kept this going for about half an hour, amused at my little game, and all was fine until the cat vomited. I felt absolutely dreadful.

Have you accidentally been cruel to an animal?
This question has been revived from way, way, way back on the b3ta messageboard when it was all fields round here.

oh... or cyberpet. i tried to get rid of the thing by leaving it in a friends coat (it was my little sisters - and slightly annoying).

over the next year or so, we played tamagotchee tennis making sure that whenever either of us left the others house, it was secreted in shoes, coats, under pillows, etc. we never fed or stroked it once.

finally i beat it to death while administering 'discipline'

damn right

I'm probably being ridiculous...
...but those toys always used to bother me for just that reason- even though it was just an electronic animation, the thought of "disciplining" it to death bothered me on some level, as did "neglecting" it.

On the other hand, the digital babies should have taken a slightly different tactic- if you neglected them, they should have grown up to have additional babies. Educational as well as entertaining...
