Power cuts, internet outages, mild inconvenience to your daily lives - how did you cope? Tell us your tales of pointless panic buying and hiding under the stairs.

thanks, ringofyre

It was probably the sirens at the gas tanks up on Sandwick road. Every now and then you hear them and think "they must be doing a drill again". So if they ever do go off for a proper emergency we'll all be blown to smithereens as we go about our merry ways thinking nothings wrong. On the upside, the new school's bomb proof because of the gas tanks up the road and the fuel dump down the road, so it might not fall apart in the first autumn gale. Maybe.

You're up here too?
I thought that at first, but I headed up towards Plasterfield and the same siren was wailing near the back of the airport. Then the proper 'classic airaid' type kicked in....

I know in Cold War days, this would be one of the first targets...a deepwater port open to the North Atlantic and the perfect landing strip...

Yep another Sy person on b3ta, a most rare breed!
I live in town, so grew up hearing the gasworks alarm, but I've never heard any air raid sirens. Maybe something to do with the wargames that were on a couple of months back.

It's not the same as it was
I used to go religiously about 5 years ago, when you went out the front door and in the back to get to the pisser cos it was so busy. Tend to avoid the town now that it's so quiet.

Sorta catch-22 thing going on there..
