Power cuts, internet outages, mild inconvenience to your daily lives - how did you cope? Tell us your tales of pointless panic buying and hiding under the stairs.

I was in Italy during the earthquake in 2009.
I was in a shitty hotel room, with a shitty little box shower thing on a cupboard next to a toilet that had plumbing that was dubious at best. I felt an early tremor, but just thought it was someone big running down the hall next to my room, as every movement on the landing shook the floor.
Then it kicked in. I was tossed about like an action man come loose from the box bindings, a cat in tumble drier, the widget in a can of smooth being shaken up for comic effect.
When it was done I was a little bruised, and very surprised the hotel was not reduced to rubble. The bar I had been working in was destroyed, I felt very lucky.

to be fair, you're only 5 foot 5 and you weigh 9 stone soaking wet with your boots on.
