One of our teachers would tell us about torture - thumbcrews, racks, iron maidens, red-hot pincers, you name it. This would be when I was about 9 or 10. Now when I'm on holiday I visit those continental torture museums and mentally tick off ones he told us about and gleefully spot ones he didn't. Ha! Mr Ridgway, what about the Pear? Eh? Eh? Eh?
