Must have been before I was born my dad was baby sitting my two elder cousins. Not long after sending them upsatirs he heard an almight kfuffle coming from upstairs. Turned out youngest had shot the eldest in the chest with an air rifle.
My dad got a bucket and mop and a pair of pliers. Eventually he managed to pull the .22 cal dart out, stuck a plaster on my cousin, moped up the mess and went back downstairs to watch the telly.
Those were the days.

Actually that's making me quite nostalgic, that is. I can just imagine some of my teachers shooting students in the chest with an air rifle and saying "It's alright, lad; I'll just get some pliers and a sticking plaster."

Predominantly because I like your spelling of 'kerfuffle' - and also liked the idea of someone moping up a mess.

My Dad didn't let me have a .22 probably on account of his babysitting days, or perhaps because he couldn't afford one. Still it was a brilliant birthday present for 14 year old (and legal too in those days).

used to have those little darts for our air pistols and used to shoot each other regularly. They fucking hurt, but nowhere near as much as a .22 wadcutter from an air-rifle. These days there'd be a SWAT team staking the house out if there was any suggestion of people messing about with guns.
