Testing a scientific hypothesisI had a theory that setting off a camera flash directly into your eye from a couple of millimetres away would cause permanent blindness. I decided to try this, and thankfully I was wrong; it cause incredible pain and temporary blindness.

I didn't even have a hypothesisI just set of a camera flash straight into my left eye one day on a whim. Couldn't see out of it for about two minutes, which was quite scary. Haven't done it again, no matter how whimsical I've felt since.
