What you could do...is say that you're going to ask her mum if it's ok if you ask her dad, sit back and watch the stream of "You don't want to be doing it that way" nonsense flood the entire interweb..
Seriously though, only you and her know you and her well enough to know if it's a good idea or not. You may have cocked up in the past but so what! Don't we all. Go for it and best of luck.
