poppers was my first experience with drugs of convincing myself I was having a heart attack. I remember taking far too much and getting stuck with this bizarre joyless laughing for about an hour, which creeped everyone out at the time and I now think might have been a mild stroke. Is amyl nitrite illegal yet? Don't know how dangerous it actually is, but it seems odd that you can still buy it in dodgy newsagents when other, more benign drugs are now class A.
