On her return home, she decided she needed a quick trip to drop the kids off at the pool, and then proceeded to strain a bit too hard and blood started squirting out of her needle hole! (no that's not a euphemism...)

I call bullshit on that.
The warning not to exercise is because the blood loss could, potentially, make you faint. In practice, although it takes much longer for the blood to regenerate completely, 24 hours of taking it easy ought to be plenty for a normal healthy adult - and less is probably fine, too.

Meanwhile, the hole doesn't spurt blood at any point. It's a needle, not a machete.
