@GoatNevertheless, the distinction that you draw between statute and common law is just not correct. Statues are laws passed by the legislature (such as Parliament or Congress); common law is that which is derived from the courts. They're both equally compelling.
Actually, the stuff about common laws applying to the human being and statutes to the person is simply incoherent - in the words of Pauli (in a different context): not even wrong.
