Charlottes Web by E.B. White
I first read Charlottes Web when I was about 8.
Probably the most upsetting thing I've ever read was the line, "Charlotte died".*
Still gets me now.
*apart from court summons, and post-mortem reports etc

I had totally forgotten about this...
