He probably didn't find out about De Niro's grasp of English placenames until that take......and they didn't bother reshooting it, it's not like factual accuracy is paramount in Hollywood. Reminds me of The Hole which was set in a random posh bit of the UK and featured an MG TF with a V8 engine dubbed over it.
