... you can't deny that women are generally smaller than men. Very usually physically weaker, as well. So a guy beating up a gal is always going to seem like an unfair adavantage, but the reverse is always going to be considered "plucky" . Yeah, the double standard is horrible and hypocritical, but since women are at a biological disadvantage, doesn't it seem like they've got to play whatever cards they have?
