I took BSL level 1 some years ago just because I thought it would be cool to learn and it taught me enough to get by. When I started a job in the NHS they had a policy of paying you extra if you speak a second language and are willing to act as an interpreter if needed. However, BSL apparently doesn't count as a second language. I was a bit miffed to say the least.
