once took my Granny out to dinner on her birthday.
He was very polite, gave her some money and souvenirs (including a watch with his face on it chairman Mao stylee) and a bottle of bubbly. She said she could still tell he was an evil bastard though.

but I've read about those watches.. he used to hand them out to people he wanted to impress and now they're worth a bit, apparently.

yeah, my cousin got the watch when she died. Apparently Saddam succeeded in convincing quite a few reporters that he was an ok bloke really, but she saw through it.
