What nonsense did you believe in as a kid?
Ever thought that you could get flushed down the loo? That girls wee out their bottoms? Or that bumming means two men rubbing their bums together? Tell us about your childhood misconceptions. Thanks to Joefish for the suggestion.

I used to believe in anarchy, punk rock, smoking and drugs.
That we needed to smash the system; burn it down, blow it up, and kick it 'til it breaks - fuck the law and fuck the pigs, I'm doing it my way, copper, and you'll have to kill me before I surrender!
Then I grew up, and realised that actually we've got it pretty fucking good here if you're prepared to put your back into it, and that it's nice to earn your pint instead of fucking scrounging it like a spoilt teenager having a tantrum.
Striving for anarchy is absolutely bloody stupid (though as a lens for social study can be relatively useful), punk rock is just a capitalist mechanism designed to profit from selling a message of anti-capitalism, and smoking, too, is absolutely bloody stupid. It took me quite a while to get rid of that last one, mind.

Fucking sell out.
I rock the system by listening to RATM, at low volumes, whilst not working very hard. I'm playing the long game.

Smoking is indeed rebellious and grown-up.
It's also bloody stupid, considering a significant aspect of one's respiratory system is specifically designed to prevent the intake of smoke.

I hate righteous non-smokers.
I found it useful, however, to simply look at myself like I would an errant child; "Seriously, lad - what the hell do you think you're doing? Look at what you're doing - it's stupid".
Not in that awful, condescending "Well if you want to kill yourself that's fine just don't do it around my kids" sort of way, but just a genuine sort of facepalm, "WTF?!" sort of way.
If that helps.

Something went off in my head a week or so ago, whilst rolling up.
Mainly by suddenly realising there was little difference between that and shooting up.

At least your hair grows back and you can take off your studded wristbands and tartan pants. I'm grateful neck tattoos and ear gauges were not in vogue when I was coming up and developing my identity through decorations.
