My dad told me when i was a kid that when prisoners wanted to commit suicide in the old days they ate sandwiches full of broken glass, if the prison wardens found out then they fed them sandwiches full of cotton wool so it would wrap around the glass and stop it cutting their insides....sounds feasible i suppose.
