But the Italian Chapel is a pretty nifty work of art put together from scraps of whatever they could scrounge by Italian prisoners of war who were kept there for the duration. It would be a great shame if people were going around vandalising the place.

Men hopes and fears, their creativity and hardwork are perhaps a little cheapened.
The chapel is about remaining human in the face of adversity, these men had no idea how long the war was going to end, when they would get home, and maybe if they would get home. Stuck on an island battered by the North Atlantic, a very long way from home under armed guard. To them, their faith meant a lot, and they took great comfort in their endevours.
I see it as an artistic endeavour, now slightly sullied.

if this story was about St Nondescript's in Anytown, I would feel less compelled to say anything.

But because of the back story.....

It doesnt matter that they were on the "wrong side", or even that they were religeous. It gave them enjoyment through its creation and kept them human in a very inhumane time
