Hey, I had outright ownership of my first car!My cash purchase of a clapped out Vauxhall Nova marked me out as the high-roller I was destined to become.
When I sold it on for £20, I like to think I was affording someone else the same opportunities that I had been fortunate enough to enjoy.

Come to think of it, all of my cars have been owned outright,barring the current one. Strikes me that "owning a car outright" is so unexceptional as to not even be worth thinking about (which was your original point).
