This is a question I don't understand the attraction

Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Pink Floyd
I'm going out on a limb here but i'm not getting why 'Floyd' fans can spend hours wibbling on about how great they were. There are a couple of nice tunes, sure, but I don't understand the adoration nor why I'm considered a musical retard if I don't utterly love them or can quote every song on every album they've ever done. There does seem to be a lot of very self indulgent guitar twanging going on that might appeal to a 15 year old wanking into a sock. I quite liked Keith Floyd but can't make the topic stretch over a 5 hour pub session nor can I close my eyes and wave my zippo whenever he comes on the telly. Whilst I'm on I don't really like The Beatles either.

if you think Pink Floyd is full of self-indulgent guitar wanking
then you have no idea what self-indulgent guitar wanking sounds like. I love Pink Floyd. Not ashamed to admit it and won't castigate you if you don't like them, but if there's one thing to be said about them it's that Dave Gilmour really fucking knows how to play the guitar and is one of very few guitarists who doesn't overdo the number of notes.

floyd
i said guitar twanging. not wanking. and it's not music per se that i have the problem with - i mean comfortably numb is a brilliant brilliant piece of music. it's obsessive, over anaylsed and very often pretentious fandom coupled with the insistence that i have to love them too that irks.

ah sorry
the over-analysis of it is pretty gay. I like it because I think it sounds great, not because of what it means. Let's face it, almost all the lyrics are complete nonsense, and the ones that aren't are because Roger Waters is a dickhead.

A
friend who is quite into the Floyd summed them up; when they are good they are very, very good; but when they are bad, they are horrid. Me? I really dont like the Syd Barrett stuff, just sounds like any other band of the time.
