For the love of god, mate, NO!

In my experience, pretty much the whole IT industry is a smokescreen of people who don't know what they're doing, but are willing to blindly push a few buttons when everybody else is scared to. If you push a button and it works, you're a hero. If you push a button and it knackers up, then ah well, you tried, and it must be a 'serious network problem'. etc etc blah blah.
People are always apologetic towards you, you see, because they don't want to be bollocked for breaking the equipment. I honestly know next-to-cock-all about IT but have it sussed so well that I'm looking for promotion prospects in other jobs.

The key is to just have the guts to get into the industry in the first place. Good luck!
