Have you carried out a successful con? Perhaps you hustled a few quid off a stranger, or defrauded a multi-national company. Or have you been taken for the wide-eyed, naive rube that you are?

I always believe what people say to me in pubs, too.
Is it also not beyond the realms of possibility that the smelly man said he had a job just to cover his embarassment? It's also possible that he did have a job, just a very, very low paid, unpleasant job, and you're making assumptions about his status.
Also, I don't know what world you're living in if you think you can afford a BMW on £10,000 a year.
