An ex-colleague of mine still claims it didn't happen.His argument is: "The height of technical advances in 1969 was the Ford Anglia".
So yeah, the fact that mankind went from the first powered flight to the first supersonic flights in less than 50 years counts for nothing to these people.
Oh, and did I mention that he was a scientist too?
