Some mugs still think the MMR injection gives children autism (it doesn't), while others are of the belief that we're ruled by billionaire lizard people. Tell us about views outside the mainstream which people go glassy eyed if you bang on about them (Your grandad's a racist - no need to tell us, thanks)

Was a brilliant mix of scientist, artist and engineer. We still use his method of plankton collection, virtually unchanged, that he designed over 80 years ago. He also put forward the 'aquatic ape' theory. www.guardian.co.uk/science/2013/apr/27/aquatic-ape-theory-primate-evolution
Hmm. I'll stick to the plankton.

It's a genuine shame that it's complete and utter bollocks.

She was holding forth about humans not being hairy because of living in water and I piped up with "But what about otters and beavers and that?"

who is a proponent of the AAT and was the first person ever to killfile me on Usenet.
I'll never forget his proposal that a man could drown a lion by holding its head under the sea while standing in knee deep water.

It does explain how we got bigger brains thanks to all those omega-3 fatty acids that are found only in seafood. I've not heard anyone come up with a more convincing alternate theory about how that happened on the savannah plains

It doesn't explain how today there are millions of perfectly healthy people born and raised on a diet of no seafood.
If all we had to do was outwit a clam then there wasn't much selection pressure on our earliest ancestors either, who didn't live by the sea and didn't have farmer's markets.
So I have a real problem with the AAT, it hasn't thought through almost every aspect of its frequently preposterous claims.
