Similar thing happened at college...girl of greek extraction walks in to the room late, full on black dress, veil, running mascara, the works. He responded to 'Fuck me, your mother died or something? Why are you wearing all stuff?' With a wimpered 'yes'.
At least in your case you could claim some kind of innocence.
