This is a question Corporate Idiocy

Comedian Al Murray recounts a run-in with industrial-scale stupidity: "Car insurance company rang, without having sent me a renewal letter, asking for money. Made them answer security questions." In the same vein, tell us your stories about pointless paperwork and corporate quarter-wits

Quite right
There are two types of criminal. Those that plan it beforehand, and those that don't.

The ones that plan it beforehand generally take all the steps they can think of to avoid getting caught.

The ones that don't plan it beforehand... don't plan it beforehand. But, they generally do try to hide or destroy evidence of their crime afterwards so they don't get caught.

From this, I conclude that the only deterrent to committing crimes is the fear of getting caught. Something to think about next time police resources get cut/outsourced/reprioritised by any government that says they want to be tough on crime.

For the record, I am not police and have no connection to them (other than paying towards their cost through my taxes).
