As a public sector workerI have no answer. The expansion of staff in the DWP and Jobcentre Plus is probably pretty self explanatory though. More unemployed = bigger dole queues = need for more staff to process them.
In the North East the public sector is the biggest employer by far, I believe. Partly because previous Governments shot the arse out of traditional industry.
