This was done for real yearsago.
Not sure why it has to be limited to them, but apparently it was a favourite of Russian gangs.
I heard it was a lot more than £5 / minute as well.

The same plot was used in an episode of The Bill once. Pretty sure there have been subsequent prosecutions of copycats. Turns out ownership of a premium-rate line is easily traced.

To be fair, I actually first heard this from a guy I worked with in '95, so it was a while ago. The guy who told me about it claims he had been doing it the previous summer. He could have been completely full of shit but i saw him do enough other dodgy stuff that it wouldn't have suprised me.
