Customers from Hell
The customer is always right. And yet, as 'listentomyopinion' writes, this is utter bollocks.
Tell us of the customers who were wrong, wrong, wrong but you still had to smile at (if only to take their money.)

dont shoot me or anything
but when I was a kid, if there was teacher wearing trousers that were 2 inches too short, or funny glasses, or maybe a dodgy jacket, we would tear them to pieces - verbally of course. I cannot fathom what would have happened if Miss turned out to be Mister (or vice versa). Is it just a tiny little bit possible that you might have expected a teeny little bit of grief from inner city kids? Inner city or not, you know that kids are merciless.
I know that doesn't justify anything of course, and if you were teaching in an adult college or something, i think you'd have a slightly better argument.
In your case, they do sound like scum. I think if you'd worked at my school, the parents would probably have been a little bit pleased that you were there, in that middle class "I have a lot of *insert minority* type friends you know" way. The kids would have torn you a new one though. (No pun intended).
