Dad stories
"Do anything good for your birthday?" one of your friendly B3TA moderator team asked in one of those father/son phone calls that last two minutes. "Yep," he said, "Your mum." Tell us about dads, lack of dad and being a dad.

True, this.
My original dad left when I was 7; my later stepfather was more of a dad to me than he was. He died of cancer in 2008.
After that, I got back in touch with my biological father, long distance. I had not seen him in 20 years, and had not talked to him in nearly 10. We talked about our lives once every couple of weeks for about a year. I was just beginning to know more about him again.
In June of this year, I had been planning to call him, but skipped it as I was busy with work. Two days after that, I got a call: he had collapsed of a heart attack. He died four days later.
Since he only acted in a paternal capacity for 7 of my 40 years, he was more like a distant uncle to me than a father figure, but now I'll never see or talk to him again and it sucks anyway.
