Sorry but your dad was wrong
You only have to watch a David Attenborough programme to see a huge range of animals that can see perfectly well in the dark. That's just animals that we know about.
Monsters in the bedroom are a whole order of magnitude more dangerous and well-equipped. Seeing in the dark is the least impressive of their abilities.

not to mention
the ones that are hiding in the dark shadows when you're in the half light, venom dripping from their fangs abd dried blood on their claws. they can seee you very well indeed.
