Cycling on snow is easyit's ice that's the problem. I know that sounds like it's obvious, but it really is amazing how much grip you have on snow. Ice is do-able until you hit a rut and it knocks your front wheel about.
Keeping either to virgin snow or cleared/salted car tracks and I cycled to work perfectly OK.
Pushed along the roads that were all ice though :)
