I had a very similar experience driving to Canadasomewhere along a highway in upstate new york, traffic got backed up, and one of the guys in the car remarked "some one better fucking be dead!" and of course there had been a bloody cataclysmic accident that was backing traffic up. Didn't see the bodies but it was pretty easy to discern the impossibility of survivors.
He refused to take it back, the cheeky bastard...
